Altea (in Castellano and Valenciano) is a municipality of Spain in the province of Alicante in the Comunidad Valenciana. It is located in the comarca of Marina Baixa and in the predominantly Valencian linguistic area 1. Altea is located on the Mediterranean coast, called the Costa Blanca.
Today, the economy of Altea is mainly based on tourism, which developed during the 1950s thanks to the climate and beaches of the area. The city is protected to the north of the Serra Bernia, which allows it to benefit from a particular microclimate.
